DO YOUR KEYWORD RESEARCH/USE YOUR KEYWORDS
Before you start with any article, old and new, it is important to consider the keywords you want to rank for.

If you have already started optimising your new content for SEO, you probably already have a SEO library with a list of keywords you want to rank for in search results. If not, do a quick Google search. Type your website niche into the search bar and take a look at the websites that appear high in the search results. See what the titles are for your topic, take a look at how others incorporated their keywords within their content and make a list of keyword ideas for your website.
When you have a list of keywords you want to target, go back to any of your old articles and take a look at where you can add these keywords within your content. Rewrite a few sentences or add new paragraphs, if necessary, but always make sure that your keyword fits within the context of the article and that is fits with the flow of the content – your article must be easy to read for humans.
If necessary, update the images. Create new images and ensure that the titles and the alt text for these images include your keywords.

TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR CONTENT STRUCTURE
Good content structure goes a long way. It is vital for SEO to ensure that your content is easy to read and easy to navigate. The best way to ensure that your content meets this criteria is to follow the simple rules of writing.
You only have a few seconds to capture the attention of your readers so make sure that you catch your audience hook, line and sinker within the first 100 words of your article. This is also the perfect place to introduce your focus keyword to your content.
Make your content easy to read by adding headings between your paragraphs or ideas. Ensure that your headings tell your readers exactly what they can expect from the next paragraph but do not make your headings too long – keep it 5 words or fewer. Include your focus keyword in at least one of your headings.
Break your content into paragraphs. Smaller chunks of information are easier to read and to digest which will make it easier for your readers to go through your content. Make sure you add your focus keyword, and variations thereof, to your body content.

WRITE GREAT CONTENT
CONTENT QUALITY IS KING. When writing your content, make sure that it fulfils a need in the life of your readers. People use the internet to find solutions to problems and answers to questions. Make sure that your content does exactly that. If your old content seems a little thin, add more informative paragraphs. If new research that relates to your content has been done, add a paragraph or two about the new research. Are there any new ways of doing certain things? Add that to your content. Remove everything that is unnecessary or is no longer relevant.
LINK TO RELATED CONTENT
One of the ways your readers (and search engines) navigate through your website is through internal links. Internal links are those links that point to another article on your website. If you have two articles that cover a similar topic, add a link to your older articles that will show your readers that there is another similar article they might find interesting. Try to make your internal linking as soon as possible. You can consider adding the link in between paragraphs or within the text itself.
MAKE IT EASY TO SHARE CONTENT
When readers see a content piece they enjoy, they are likely to share it with their readers because they know their readers might enjoy it too. If one person shares your content, you have the opportunity to reach that person’s audience and if that person share’s your content, you have another opportunity to reach an even bigger audience. More eyes on your content mean more traffic. And more traffic means more money.
The easiest way to get your content shared is to use social sharing buttons. There are many FREE social media sharing plugins available.
Don’t make it hard for your readers to share your content. The easier it is to share, the more likely it is that your content will be shared.
